I've found that most guys that work on their cars or at least keep them in good condition are pretty nice. The ones who throw money at a car and it runs poorly, breaks all the time, or have every APC part in the book tend to be jerks. The reason is that they know their car sucks but don't want to admit it's their fault. If someone buys a beat up car then a significant portion of the time they'll tell you it's a 'project' or it's just beat up. They got it that way. If they beat up a car, they'll boast about what they've done, even if it ruined the car. Simple as that....it's a ego thing.
